  • Strike Action

    Tue 24 Jan 2023 ZF

    24th January 2023

    Dear parents/carers,

You may be aware from media coverage that the teaching union – NEU – has declared strike action which will take place on the following dates:

    • Wednesday 1st February 2023
    • Wednesday 1st March 2023
    • Wednesday 15th March 2023
    • Thursday 16th March 2023

Not all of our teachers are members of the NEU.

The strike is happening because of a national dispute between the unions and the government over teachers’ pay and lack of funding for schools.

As head teacher I have to balance a desire to minimise disruption to children's education, with a need to ensure we have adequate staffing for the school to operate safely.  We have looked carefully at the extent to which the school can be open safely, given the staff who are available to us on that day.

Consequently, I am getting in touch today to give you as much notice as possible that learning will be disrupted for most pupils on these dates. Having consulted with our staff union representative, I can confirm that school will be open on Wednesday 1st February 2023 for the following classes ONLY:

    • Acorn – Reception
    • Peach – Year 3/4
    • Oak – Year 6

We will continue to work closely with our staff union representative and inform you of arrangements for the future strike dates.

  • The Unexpected!

    Well.......

We didn't see this coming today.

Covered in less than 30 minutes and the school went from quiet and serene to mad excitement.

  • EFL Kids Cup

    Football Tournament

Today (13th January 2023) boys from Borrow Wood took part in a football tournament with other schools from in and around Derby. Taking the format the world cup, with a group stage followed by knockout matches, the Borrow Wood players were looking to be one of only two teams - from fourteen - to progress through to the next phase at Derby County's Moor Farm training ground.

After a win, a loss and two clean sheets in the group stage they made it through to the quarter finals where they were beaten by Homefields Primary. Despite this, they all had a fantastic time and their behaviour and sportsmanship was excellent throughout.

Cloudside School from Sandiacre and Curzon School from Quarndon were the schools heading through to the next phase. Luckily all was not lost however, as they arrived back in time for an hour of Design and Technology to round off a very enjoyable day.

Well done Douglas, Xander, Aaron, Josh, Andy, Tapiwa, Raife and Harry.
