School Dinners
At Borrow Wood all school meals are cooked on site by our own team of cooks. There are always three main options including a pudding. There is a daily self serve salad bar with a range of bread. Vegetarian choices are also available as well as special meal requirements because of health or cultural reasons. We are happy for children to have a mix of school dinners and sandwiches.
The cost of a school dinner is £2.50 per day. School meals are paid for online via SCHOOL MONEY. If you haven't yet activated your account, please contact the school office for further information.
Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to receive an Universal Infant Free School Meal every day.
VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION
All children who are entitled to Free School Meals because of their family circumstances bring an additional £1455 into the school budget to support their learning experiences at school. This money is known as Pupil Premium money and enables school to plan and support learning opportunities for these children.
If your child is entitled to free school meals anyway you still need to apply and register your entitlement otherwise school will not receive this additional funding.
Your child may be able to get free school meals if you get any of the following:
- Income Support
- income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
- Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
- Universal Credit - if you apply on or after 1 April 2018 your household income must be less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)
Children who get paid these benefits directly, instead of through a parent or guardian, can also get free school meals.
Your child may also get free school meals if you get any of these benefits and your child is both:
- younger than the compulsory age for starting school
- in full-time education
If you do not qualify for most benefits (also known as having ‘no recourse to public funds’), your child may still be eligible for free school meals. Ask their school or local authority whether they’re eligible.
If you are in receipt of any of the above benefits please contact the school office for further information. You can download the form below too. Complete the form and return it to the school office.
