Summary Description

Borrow Wood Primary School is a GOOD school with OUTSTANDING in Behaviour and Attitudes and Personal Development (Ofsted April 2023). The school is part of Odyssey Collaborative Trust - a local Derby City trust currently consisting of 7 schools. In April 2025, we opened an Enhanced Resource Facility (ERF) for children with complex communication and interaction needs to run alongside our mainstream provision. The advertised teacher role is in our mainstream school, however, there will be enhanced CPD opportunities and professional learning experiences to further develop skills and understanding to work with children across the whole school.

We are proud of being Borrow Wood Primary School with our own individual ethos of:

CHOICE

  • Challenge…   where we have a go, make mistakes and try again.
  • Honesty…      where we always tell the truth.
  • Ownership… where we take responsibility for our behaviours, learning and environment.
  • Inclusive…     where we accept and respect everyone.
  • Care…            where we look after ourselves and others.
  • Excellence… where we bring out the best in ourselves.

This is a very exciting time to join Borrow Wood with the opening of the ERF, our strong Ofsted profile and opportunities to alongside experienced colleagues.  We are, therefore, looking to appoint a teacher, who is committed, dedicated, determined and resilient - an individual who is knowledgeable about learning and skilled at bringing out the best in all our learners so that they continue to thrive and become confident, resourceful and well educated members of our society.

You will need to be able to:

  1. Demonstrate a willingness to respond positively to feedback and understand the part it plays in continually improving skills, knowledge and practice.
  2. Use a range of information and assessment sources to plan and develop sequences of learning when teaching all National Curriculum subjects.
  3. Adapt and implement a range of teaching and learning strategies to meet the needs of all children, including those with additional needs.
  4. Demonstrate consistent and effective skills in classroom organisation and behaviour management to ensure that all children are able to learn in a positive, safe, motivating environment.
  5. Evidence a willingness to contribute to inter-connecting teams by sharing ideas, workload and a positive attitude to the whole school vision.
  6. Teach lessons that lead to children making excellent progress and achieving to the best of their ability.
  7. Show flexibility and empathy in responding to the changing needs of our children and school community.
  8. Demonstrate why strong, positive relationships with all stakeholders underpin our daily practice at Borrow Wood.

In return, we provide the opportunity to work in a GOOD school with polite and well-mannered children, who have positive attitudes to their learning and want to do well; and to be part of a staffing team that plans together and supports one another.

We also encourage our staff to be open minded to all learning opportunities for themselves and therefore place high value on CPD to keep our teachers up to date with skills and knowledge.  A key priority is to focus on developing teachers to be ‘experts’ in the subjects they lead with the support of our Curriculum Leader.

Borrow Wood Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.  As this post is regulated activity, successful appointments are subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check and relevant recruitment checks that comply with guidance in the most recent version of Keeping Children Safe in Education.  We are committed to equality of opportunity in employment and services.  Borrow Wood Primary School is part of the Odyssey Collaborative Trust
