Strike Action Thursday 27th April and Tuesday 2nd May 2023
18th April 2023
Dear parents/carers,
You may be aware that further industrial action is planned because of a national dispute between the unions and the government over teachers’ pay and lack of funding for schools. Negotiations between the government and the teacher unions failed to reach agreement during the Easter holidays and as a result two additional strike days have been announced.
The two strike days are Thursday 27th April and Tuesday 2nd May.
I wanted to give you as much notice as possible that learning will be disrupted for most pupils on these dates. Having consulted with our staff union representative and teachers in school, I can confirm that school will be open on those dates for the following classes ONLY:
Thursday 27th April
- Reception – Acorn
- Yr 1 – Damson
- Yr 3/4 – Peach
- Yr 6 – Sycamore
- Yr 6 - Oak
Tuesday 2nd May
- Reception – Acorn
- Yr 1 – Damson
- Yr 6 – Sycamore
- Yr 6 - Oak
As head teacher I have to balance a desire to minimise disruption to children's education, with a need to ensure we have adequate staffing for the school to operate safely. We have looked carefully at the extent to which the school can be open safely, given the staff who are available to us on that day.
Further strike action may be announced in July.
We will continue to work closely with our staff union representative and inform you of arrangements for any future strike dates as soon as we are made aware of when they are.
Kind regards
Zoe Fletcher
