TOP TIP!

Teams can read it for you! If you are able to read the text yourself or with an adult then please do that but if you find it difficult there is an option to select 'immersive reader' which will then read the text out for you. You could always read it to yourself AND listen to it as well.

ANOTHER TOP TIP!

If you are unsure of a word's meaning you can of course go online and look it up (I would recommend https://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/) but also if you click on some words they will display some pictures of the meaning of the word which might help you to understand it. This is especially helpful if your adults at home are busy doing their own work.

Handwriting

Time: 9.30am - 9.50am

Letters: M and N

Resources: Handwriting book, pencil.

Please complete two pages in your handwriting book the same as the example page attached to this assignment. When you have finished 'turn in' your work so we know you have completed it.

Computing

Time: 11:15-12

Resources: computer/device, pencil, ruler, topic book

Date: Monday 18th January 2021 Title: Writing clear instructions

Last week we reminded ourselves what an algorithm is. An algorithm is a list of rules to follow in order to solve a problem. Algorithms need to have their steps in the right order. Think about an algorithm for getting dressed in the morning. What if you put on your coat before your jumper? Your jumper would be on top of your coat and that would be silly! When you write an algorithm the order of the instructions is very important.

Your task today is to write a clear set of instructions to help the swimmer reach the end without getting eaten by a shark! (please see attached word doc. for the picture). Try to use coding language to do this. You should do this in your book under the date and title.

RT 90 – right turn 90◦

LT 90- left turn 90◦

FD – forward

Challenge: using a plain piece of paper/some squared paper, could you create your own algorithm game board where you have to get from the start to the end using a clear algorithm?

PSHE Being Me

Time: 1.00pm - 1.40pm

Last week we had a think about what makes us who we are and you explored some of your qualities as a person. As humans we have lots of similarities and differences between ourselves and others. Having similarities is great as it gives us things to talk about, for example, if you like playing football and so does one of your friends then you have this in common and you might enjoy talking about football. It’s also great to be different though, as it means we can help others out by doing things we are good at, or we can share new ideas and hobbies with people.

Task: pick someone you are close to. This might be a family member or friend. Draw a venn diagram and write your name in one circle and their name in the other. Have a think about your skills and qualities and theirs. Anything that is similar between you should go in the middle and any differences should go in the outer part of the circle. See the example below.

By the end of this task you should be able to see that you and your chosen person have lots of things in common, but also some differences, and it is a mix between the two that makes us good friends!

Maths revisit

Time: 1.40pm - 2.00pm

Resources: Blue maths journal, pencil, purple pen, ruler, question sheet (a clock at home might also come in handy!)

Please open the attached document to see the questions. Complete these in your blue book with a margin and the short date underlined.

The answers are on the second page for when you have finished!

Science

Time: 11:15am -12.00pm

Resources: science book, ruler, pencil,

Last week we started our new science topic - states of matter.

Please start today's lesson by watching the following video. It will remind you what the 3 states of matter are, and will also provide you with some new information about the properties of solids, liquids and gases.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wclY8F-UoTE

Towards the end of the video, the narrator began to explain that states of matter can change. States of matter can change when they are either heated or cooled. For example, like the water being frozen to become ice (liquid to solid).

Can you think of any other examples of when an object's state of matter might change?

Have a look through the Changing State PowerPoint below to see a few examples of how objects can change. The ideas you have been thinking of might be there too!

Task - home experiment!

Your job is to carry out some of your very own changing state experiments at home! You won't need any special equipment, but you will need adult supervision! If you cannot do it with an adult,  please wait until a time where you can.

I would like you to use some different objects in your house and see if you can change their state of matter. You could:

Freeze some water to make ice (liquid to solid)

Melt some chocolate (solid to liquid)

Burn/melt a candle (solid to liquid)

Boil some water to make steam/water vapour (liquid to gas)

You need to pay close attention to what is happening to each object as it's state of matter changes. Does it's shape change? Does it start to flow? What other physical changes can you see?

You could take some pictures whilst doing your experiment to send to us!

If you cannot do the experiment, that's ok! Instead, please have a go at drawing some diagrams of changing states in your book (just like the ones in the powerpoint). See an example below for what you need to do.

Thursday Afternoon

Time: 1.00pm - 3.30pm

Resources: All sorts!

Please download the task to see what you need to do.

I have attached it as a picture too in case you can't see on word.

On a Thursday afternoon you will be able to choose your own activity. However, this does not mean watching TV, playing on your Xbox or browsing funny videos on tik tok etc. We would like you to choose your own activities for the afternoon and we have some ideas for you below. You might even try and tick all of these off as the weeks go by.

Take a look at the ideas and have a think which you will do today. We would like you to let us know what you did. You could maybe even send a photo. Have fun!

RE

Time: 11.15am - 12.00pm

Resources: Topic book, pencil, ruler, attached word doc.

This half term we have been looking at what we can learn from different religions about right and wrong choices. So far we have looked at rules, including the Golden Rule and The Ten Commandments.

Task 1: I would like you to think about three different things that make you really happy. Then three that make your family really happy. Finally, three things that could make everyone in the world really happy. Please create a simple table with 3 columns in your topic book to compare the 3. Once you have completed your table, have a close look at what you have written. Do any of the ideas appear in more than one of the columns?

If you had to pick one of your ideas as the most important for happiness, which would it be and why? You might want to underline the one that is most important to you.

Task 2: Many Christians believe Jesus’ words and actions show them how to live. He guided them by teaching that the only way to be really happy is by:

‐ Loving God

‐ Loving other people

‐ Being gentle and kind

‐ Being fair, and working to make sure others are treated fairly

‐ Forgiving when people hurt and upset us

‐ Being good peacemakers

‐ Helping people and nations make friends

‐ Standing up for what is right

Have a think - do you agree with any of these? are there any that you disagree with? There is no right or wrong answer, just your opinions/beliefs!

Your task is to pick 4 of the ideas from above and create 4 pictures, showing how a Christian child might act out these ideas every day. For example you might draw a child helping someone to carry something that is heavy and you need to label it with the idea you are trying to show (loving other people)

PE

Time: 1.00pm - 1.40pm

Resouces: Whatever you have at home, a timer would be useful.

Doing PE via teams is going to be very tricky. Everyone will have different equipment and space available to them. The main thing is to do something active. You might run around in your garden, you might practise your football skills, catching skills or throwing skills. Another idea could be to create your own circuits using equipment from around the home. Think about the circuits we have done in school for ideas, be creative, try out different ideas. If you want to do something different, take a look at the link below.

Last week it was boxercize, this week you could give Moana yoga a try!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKKb1B5JBeE

Resources: English book, pencil, ruler, worksheet attached.

Please complete the grammar activities attached below. There are 18 questions about different elements of grammar. These are all topics that we have covered before so this is just a revisit of your learning.
