Reading

Time: 9.00am - 9.30am

Pages: 4-10

Resources: Reading book, pencil, ruler.

Recap

Jordan is in the hospital where he has been lots of times before to find out how his health is from a doctor. His mum has been very nervous the whole time.

Task

Read page 8 and 9 to yourself. When you have read to the end of page 9 you need to STOP. A key word you might not recognise in this section is the word 'chemo'. It is short for chemotherepy. That is a treatment people who have got cancer are given to try and make them better. So that means we have learnt that Jordan has had cancer in the past. Cancer is a disease which you may have heard of or may even know somone who has had it.

In your yellow reading books you are going to do the following:

Write the long date and title and underline both.

Date: Tuesday 12th January 2021

Title: The Soup Movement - Page 8-9

Then we would like you to answer the following questions in full sentences:

1) Why do you think mum keeps butting in and answering the doctors questions?

2) How do you think Jordan feels about his mum answering his questions for him?

3) Do you think it will be good news from the Doctor?

Our book 'The Soup Movement' deals with the topic of homelessness as many of you predicted by looking at the front cover. Eventually we will be going on to write in the style of a newspaper report using our book to help with content. In order to do this it will be useful to have a good background knowledge of what homelessness is so today we will be finding out a bit more about it.

Task (making notes on homelessness)

Please remember to write the long date, title and use a ruler to underline them.
