Monday 1st February 2021
This week our text is called: ‘Facts about Italy’. I would like you to read through the text carefully. There are 3 different options to choose from this week - you should choose the hardest one that you are able to manage. The 1 star text is easiest and 3 stars is the most challenging.
Underline any words that you are unsure of. We will begin to clarify some of these words tomorrow. It would be helpful to read the text aloud to see if you can add expression as you read.

Geography 11.00- 12.00am
Revisit – Last week we started by looking at how many countries we could label in Europe. We’re going to have another go this week to see if we can beat our high score!
Spend 5 minutes looking at the map of Europe that we first looked at last week. Try to remember some of the names of the countries.
Have a go at labelling as many countries as you can using https://world-geography-games.com/countries_europe.html
Main Learning:
Write down the learning target and date neatly in your book.
L.O: Understand how Italy is divided
Last week we started to look at some information about how Italy was divided. Unfortunately, lots of you missed this lesson, but you will need to know the information we covered before we can continue.
If you missed last week’s lesson please start here. If you completed last week’s lesson, please scroll to the bottom of ‘geography’ to find out what I would like you to do this week.
1.) First, start by watching https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5mpdzUlFmw
Write down some key things you notice in the video which tell you what Italy is like.
Our lesson today will help us to think about what Italy is like as a whole country and we are going to ‘zoom in’ to find out how it is divided up into different parts, which we call regions.
2.) Now, let’s look at this map. https://online.seterra.com/en/vgp/3092
The white lines show us where one region ends and another begins....a bit like how England is split up into different counties such as Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire. Yorkshire etc.
Can you spot how many regions there are? Try to count them.
Just for fun, have a go at finding some of the regions of Italy – can you say them correctly?
3.) Now watch this video which shows an aerial view of Italy. That means it shows you a view as if you were a bird flying over the top of it.
I would like you to think about how the different regions of Italy are similar and different from each other. You will know when a different region is shown because its name comes up in blue on the screen
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J_UTXHXTidw
Today we are going to look at some of Italy’s regions in a bit more detail, starting with Florence. Can you spot it on the map of Italy below?
First of all download this powerpoint. We are going to think about what makes Florence special. Look at the pictures and write down 3 reasons why you might visit Florence.
Next, read through the Florence fact file. If you are struggling to read it, click on ‘view’ at the top of the page and click ‘Immersive Reader’ The computer will then read it out to you.
Task: Create a fac tfile of your own using a whole page in your topic book. I would like to know the following:
What is it like in Florence?
Why should I visit?
How many people live there?
What would I see if I visited Florence?
You should make your fact-file colourful and it needs to include pictures, information which has been written down and fact boxes. Look at the pictures of fact files we have read so far in Reading below – this is the kind of thing I am looking for.
If you started this task last week:
This week I could like you to create me a colourful poster which would persuade me to visit Florence. It needs to include pictures, information which has been written down and fact boxes. Look at the pictures of fact files we have read so far in Reading below – this is the kind of thing I am looking for. Use lots of colour to make it eye-catching!
Spelling 1.00pm -1.30pm
Download the powerpoint below for today’s task. You must write your learning in your spelling journal under today’s date.
Grammar Revisit 1.30pm-1.40pm

Look at the pictures below and write the answers in your book – Can you correctly identify the past and present tense?

DT 11.00am – 12.00am
Today we are going to have a go at creating our pencil holders! You will have 2 weeks to do this!
Unfortunately, we can’t quite do this as we planned to do it in school as I am sure you will all have limited resources at home.
So, what I would like you to do, is think about any old packaging you have around the house that you could adapt to make your pencil holder... I'm thinking of cube tissue boxes, cereal boxes that you could cut the bottom off, kitchen roll holders....i’m sure you will have a few things around that you could use. You could wrap them in paper so that you can carefully draw on your designs too!

If you have a printer, it might be easier for you to download some of the nets below. See if you can build the shapes from the nets to make some mini pencil holders – we can’t make them as big as we would like because you will only be able to print onto A4 paper, but you could make a mini one for mini pencils! There are lots of different shapes to choose from. Don’t forget to draw your designs on carefully BEFORE you start to make the shapes. You will need to think carefully about which way around your drawings need to be ...and don’t forget to add lots of colour! I would like you to take your time so that you make something that is your best, so don’t rush to get it all done this week – you will have next week too!

Think it – Can you match the following vocabulary to their definitions using your learning from last few weeks?
Click on the following link: https://wordwall.net/play/10024/366/926
Main Learning:
Today we are going to learn about how Hindu’s view life...
Watch the video below to find out what we will be learning today!
RE.wmv

When you have watched the powerpoint, you can watch this video to find out more about reincarnation... https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/religious-studies-ks2-my-life-my-religion-hinduism-cycle-of-birth-and-rebirth/zn68qp3
So.. Hindus believe in ‘Karma’. Have you ever heard the phrase ‘what goes around comes around?’ or heard somebody talk about ‘good karma’ and ‘bad karma’? It’s a little bit like our reward charts in school...if we do something good, we earn rewards but if we do something negative, we have consequences for our actions. Hindus believe that if you do good things in life, you will be reborn into a good life but if you do bad things, then you are reborn into a life that isn’t as nice.
Our task today is to draw out a poster to show what Hindus believe about how life works...
Task: Draw your own circle of life diagram, showing key moments such as birth, learning to walk, going to school, getting a job, getting married, becoming a parent, retiring, dying.
When you have drawn it, think about ways that people could gather good karma at each stage. You could write these around each circle.

PSHE
This week celebrates ‘Children’s Mental Health week.’ Children's Mental Health Week 2021
This year’s theme is: ‘EXPRESS YOURSELF’ and it aims to explore and encourage different ways for children to express themselves creatively.
In our PSHE lesson today, we want you to choose from one of the tasks below. If you want to do more than one…Brilliant!
Task 1:
Consider one of these questions (see attached question document below) and discuss your answers with someone at home.
You may want to have a go at answering one of the questions in your own, special way.
Why not have go at writing a song, designing a piece of art work to help explain your answer? Perhaps you could create a poster, poem or storyboard of pictures or photographs that help explain your answer to your selected question .
Task 2:
You may want to print off the ‘Bunting Template’ and fill each triangle with some of your favourite things. You could always decorate your bedroom with this bunting if you would like.
If you don’t have a printer, you may want to make your own Bunting to be decorated and hung up at home.
Task 3:
Our lives are full of colour and we can use colour to help make sense of how we are feeling, who we are and the world that we live in. You may want to create a collage or piece of art work that expresses a feeling or expresses some of our favourite things.
You could wear your favourite colour or choose a range of colours that express how you’re feeling today. Colour can be very personal and mean different things to different people, so this is a great opportunity to encourage self-expression and celebrate a diverse range of emotions.
In our final Teams session today, why not ‘Dress to Express’ in your favourite colours and clothes. Just because you’re at home, doesn’t mean you can’t get dressed up to express how you are feeling.
If you can’t log in for our final session, then why not send a photograph of you dressed in your favourite colours or outfits.
Live Summary – Question and answer session – 3.20pm – 3.30pm
If you need any support with any of today’s learning, would like to ask some questions or would like to share some of your learning, log into the day’s summary at 3.20pm where Miss Sargison will be online to help you or to give you some feedback.
