Derby Book Award

During the Spring term, the pupils of Elder, Apple and Peach classes represented Borrow Wood Primary School as a 'shadowing' school in the annual Derby Book Award.

The children were provided with copies of the following books:

  • 'All Kinds of Families' by Sophie Henn
  • 'Super Milly and the Super School Day' by Stephanie Clarkson and Gwen Millward
  • 'The Boy Who Loved Everyone' by Jane Porter and Maisie Paradise Shearing

All of the boys and girls completed lessons based on the three books, which involved them producing some wonderful pieces of writing and art work, some of which you can see below.

On 27th May, the Year 2 and 3 children took part in a very special 'Meet the Author' event that saw them meet (virtually) Sophie Henn alongside 5700 other pupils across Derby. She led them in an exciting lesson linked to her book. On this day, the boys and girls dressed up as one of their favourite characters from one of the three books or a character from their own favourite books and we saw some brilliant costumes!

On 24th June, Year 2 and 3 took part in a 'Borrow Wood Book Award Assembly' where Mr Gallagher shared with them the results of their votes. The votes were counted and verified and were as follows:

1st place with 42 votes - 'All Kinds of Families' by Sophie Henn

2nd place with 37 votes - 'Super Milly and the Super School Day' by Stephanie Clarkson and Gwen Millward

3rd place with 9 votes - 'The Boy Who Loved Everyone' by Jane Porter and Maisie Paradise Shearing

Mr Gallagher would like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Ball, Miss Morgan, Mrs Mullholland and the pupils of Elder, Apple and Peach class for their efforts. He is feeling extremely proud!
